A Quality Assurance (QA) Director is a high-level executive who oversees the quality control operations within a company. They are responsible for developing and implementing quality control systems, establishing standards and guidelines, and ensuring that all products and services meet the required quality benchmarks. They also direct and coordinate the quality control team to ensure that all inspections and tests are accurately done on time. Apart from this, a QA Director is also expected to manage and resolve any quality-related issues, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards.

Before becoming a QA Director, one may hold roles such as QA Manager, QA Engineer, or Quality Control Supervisor. A QA Director should possess excellent communication and leadership skills. They should have a keen eye for detail and a strong analytical mind. In terms of educational qualifications, a Bachelor's Degree in Quality, Business, or a relevant field is usually required. Certifications such as Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), and Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) are highly desirable. Furthermore, they should have a solid understanding of quality control procedures and relevant legal standards, and proficiency in using Quality Management Systems (QMS) and databases.
