Product Safety Engineer Jobs in Washington
A Product Safety Engineer in the quality control industry is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing procedures to eliminate potential health and safety risks associated with a product's use. They work extensively with product design and manufacturing teams to ensure that products satisfy all safety regulations and standards. They conduct rigorous safety tests, prepare reports on their findings, and recommend ways to improve product safety. They also take part in investigations to identify the root cause of any product-related accidents or malfunctions.
Important skills for a Product Safety Engineer include knowledge of product safety standards, solid analytical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a keen eye for detail. Proficiency in safety simulation software and tools, along with strong verbal and written communication skills, are also necessary. A degree in engineering is typically required, along with certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Product Safety Manager (CPSM), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Prior to becoming a Product Safety Engineer, a person may have roles such as a Safety Coordinator, Quality Control Inspector, or Product Development Engineer.
