Job Summary

Oversees quality assurance (QA) teams, program, and policies ensuring food safety, regulatory and company compliance, and compliance with all established safety procedures. Serves as a primary point of contact for the resolution of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and other Food Safety related issues. Guides audits and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manages a team of entry to established level individual contributors and/or supervisors. Provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure successful delivery of department goals. Responsible for HR activities such as hiring, terminations, performance management, goal setting, team member development, scheduling, budget allocation, etc. Enforces and meaningfully contributes to the development of systems, policies, and procedures. Participates in strategic planning for the function.

2. Oversees the design, implementation and execution of programs, processes, policies, control procedures, and standard practices. Responsible for the achievement of department goals.

3. Provides expertise for the resolution of quality, safety, or sanitation issues. Collaborates cross functionally to resolve quality related concerns, implement corrective action, and ensure risks are mitigated.

4. Responsible for quality inspections and audits for operations, processing environments, suppliers, products, etc. Promotes GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and Food safety providing coaching and training as needed.

5. Oversees the investigation and resolution of product and process failures.

6. Serves as a main point of contact for external vendors and third parties such as USDA. Responsible for facility, customer, and third-party audits and audit preparation.

7. Engages with customer and consumer feedback to identify root cause and implement impactful preventative measures.

8. Stays up to date with industry trends, best practices, and advancements to continuously enhance quality programs.

9. Oversees the development and execution of data handling, intricate analysis, and comprehensive reporting processes. Utilizes data to identify opportunities and implement

process optimizations.

10. Monitors key performance indicators and presents insights from teams findings.

Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)

Bachelors degree in related field equivalent experience

6+ years of relevant experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role

2+ years of leadership experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role

1+ HACCP certification course or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Firm knowledge of product specifications, plant quality procedures, and plant HACCP plan

Strong understanding of GMPs, Food Safety, HACCP, USDA regulations and guidelines, SSOPs,

K-12 school lunch program, and CN programs

Working knowledge of poultry processing, including Further Processing (FP)

Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, coach, develop, mentor, and motivate a team

Sound project management skills with the ability to impact results

Highly skilled at resource management, delegation, and prioritizing deliverables

Ability to identify and implement process improvements

Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, and collaboration skills with the ability to foster relationships internally and externally

Proficient technology skills including Microsoft Office Suites and ability to utilize inventory management programs

Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and resolve quality issues

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of pest control practices

Knowledge of sanitation chemicals and cleaning procedures

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed in a variety of conditions including climate-controlled office and laboratory environment(s); in a manufacturing plant environment with varying conditions, such as cold areas, wet areas, warm areas, chemicals, and other site conditions; and in a farm environment including working outdoors in seasonal conditions with live animals and at times in dusty environments.

This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment while in the laboratory, manufacturing and farm environment. This individual may be working around sick or diseased animals where additional precautions may need to be taken.

The noise level of the office, laboratory and farm environment is usually moderate. The noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA and require hearing protection. Showering in and out of farm locations may be required.

Minimal travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
